Well damn, if THAT is what cats have to say, I'm glad Keys can't talk... At the moment, we've got two guinea pigs (Teddy and Herbie-Bug), four Dutch rabbits (Buster Boo, his woman Lucy Luce, and their daughters Rosie Real, who is a biatch, and Miracle 'aka Scar' who's continued existence most certainly IS a miracle), one Netherlands Dwarf cross (Hobie), one 'holier than thou' bluepoint Siamese cat named Harry Kitkins (or Key Key or Keys, or sometimes just Kitkins... very, very rarely Harry), three hamsters (Houdini 'aka Dee', Pip and Smudge), two gerbils (Lilo and Stitch -guess who owns THOSE!-) and one fish... Spot. We're buying a Labrador in December as well... okay, I'M buying a Labrador... and Joe gets to reap the benefits heh heh heh He's looking forward to it, and keeps walking his pretend puppy in preparation. Our last dog would stop at the edge of the pavement with the rest of us at the 'wait' request I give Joe (who doesn't always think he should so needs verbal reinforcement juuuuuust to be safe), so he has decided this invisible puppy should as well... Damn does he get stern when that puppy apparently disobeys! He will shake his finger at the ground and go 'NO! Puppy gets squished! No runnin' in road!' These people look at me funny, and I'm like 'what?! he's walkin' his dog here, people, move along now!' This is us and Hobie just last Friday... bloody Hell, look awaaaaaaaaaay from the Kitty... look at the rabbit... cuuuuuuuute rabbit!  Uber annoying guinea pigs who are going to be living outside after this weekend because of said annoyingness... by the by, Bug's eyes really are that color, its not just the red-eye from the flash; he's the Piggie of the Damned...  and Keys... back when I liked him... well BEFORE he lost his luffly collar and very expensive custom tag after a successful escape from the house yesterday *mutters*  oh, and in the background of this one, you can see Rosie's butt, and Luce... who is being polite and NOT showing you her backside. She's the mommy, she's gotta set a good example. Fab job you're doing there, Luce... no, really, keep it up... *rolls eyes at anti-social Rosie*   |

Wow, kitty, you've got a smorgasbord of animal life! It's great growing up with lots and lots of different animals. I did too, I think it's important for kids. It gives them something to take care of, care for, and something fun and fluffy to play with. What cute animals! Makes me wish I had a huge fluffy bunny to cuddle up with when I get home. (I'd rather have a hairy man to cuddle with, but since that ain't in the near future....well ya know what I mean, I'll take what's next best.) :bigO: |

Guidelines for Cats Doors: Do not allow closed doors in any room. To get door opened, stand on hind legs and hammer with forepaws. Once door is opened, it is not necessary to use it. After you have ordered an "outside" door opened, stand halfway in and out and think about several things. This is particularly important during very cold weather, rain, snow, or mosquito season. Swinging doors are to be avoided at all costs. Chairs and Rugs: If you have to throw up, get to a chair quickly. If you cannot manage in time, get to an Oriental rug. If there is no Oriental rug, shag is good. When throwing up on the carpet, make sure you back up so that it is as long as the human's bare foot. Bathrooms: Always accompany guests to the bathroom. It is not necessary to do anything . . . just sit and stare. Hampering: If one of your humans is engaged in some close activity and the other is idle, stay with the busy one. This is called "helping", otherwise known as "hampering." Following are the rules for "hampering": * When supervising cooking, sit just behind the left heel of the cook. You cannot be seen and thereby stand a better chance of being stepped on and then picked up and comforted. * For book readers, get in close under the chin, between eyes and book, unless you can lie across the book itself. * For knitting projects or paperwork, lie on the work in the most appropriate manner so as to obscure as much of the work or at least the most important part. Pretend to doze, but every so often reach out and slap the pencil or knitting needles. The worker may try to distract you; ignore it. Remember, the aim is to hamper work. Embroidery and needlepoint projects make great hammocks in spite of what the humans may tell you. * For people paying bills (monthly activity) or working on income taxes or Christmas cards (annual activity), keep in mind the aim-to hamper! First, sit on the paper being worked on. When dislodged, watch sadly from the side of the table. When activity proceeds nicely, roll around on the papers, scattering them to the best of your ability. After being removed for the second time, push pens, pencils, and erasers off the table, one at a time. When a human is holding the newspaper in front of him/her, be sure to jump on the back of the paper. They love to jump. Walking: As often as possible, dart quickly and as close as possible in front of the human, especially on stairs, when they have something in their arms, in the dark, and when they first get up in the morning. This will help their coordination skills. Bedtime: Always sleep on the human at night so s/he cannot move around. Play: This is an important part of your life. Get enough sleep in the daytime so you are fresh for your nocturnal games. Below are listed several favorite cat games that you can play. It is important, though, to maintain one's dignity at all times. If you should have an accident during play, such as falling off a chair, immediately wash a part of your body as if to say "I meant to do that!" It fools those humans every time. Cat Games: * Catch Mouse: The humans would have you believe that those lumps under the covers are their feet and hands. They are lying. They are actually Bed Mice, rumored to be the most delicious of all the mice in the world, though no cat has ever been able to catch one. Rumor also has it that only the most ferocious attack can stun them long enough for you to dive under the covers to get them. Maybe YOU can be the first to taste the Bed Mouse! * King of the Hill: This game must be played with at least one other cat. The more, the merrier! One or both of the sleeping humans is Hill 303 which must be defended at all costs from the other cat(s). Anything goes. This game allows for the development of unusual tactics as one must take the unstable playing theater into account. Warning: Playing either of these games to excess will result in expulsion from the bed and possibly from the bedroom. Should the humans grow restless, immediately begin purring and cuddle up to them. This should buy you some time until they fall asleep again. If one happens to be on a human when this occurs, this cat wins the round of King of the Hill. Toys: Any small item is a potential toy. If a human tries to confiscate it, this means that it is a good toy. Run with it under the bed. Look suitably outraged when the human grabs you and takes it away. Always watch where it is put so you can steal it later. Two reliable sources of toys are dresser tops and wastebaskets. There are several types of cat toys. * Bright shiny things like keys, brooches, or coins should be hidden so that the other cat(s) or humans can't play with them. They are generally good for playing hockey with on uncarpeted floors. * Dangly and/or string-like things such as shoelaces, cords, gold chains, and dental floss (& Q-tips) also make excellent toys. They are favorites of humans who like to drag them across the floor for us to pounce on. * When a string is dragged under a newspaper or throw rug, it magically becomes the Paper/Rug Mouse and should be killed at all costs. Take care, though. Humans are sneaky and will try to make you lose your dignity. Paper Bags: Within paper bags dwell the bag mice. They are small and camouflaged to be the same color as the bag, so they are hard to see. But you can easily hear the crinkling noises they make as they scurry around the bag. Anything, up to and including shredding the bag, can be done to kill them. Note: any other cat you may find in a bag hunting for bag mice is fair game for a sneak attack, which will usually result in a great Tagmatch. Food: In order to get the energy to sleep, play, and hamper, a cat must eat. Eating, however, is only half the fun. The other half is getting the food. Cats have two ways to obtain food: convincing a human you are starving to death and must be fed now; and hunting for it oneself. The following are guidelines for getting fed. * When the humans are eating, make sure you leave the tip of your tail in their dishes when they are not looking. * Never eat food from your own bowl if you can steal some from the table. Never drink from your own water bowl if a human's glass is full enough to drink from. * Should you catch something of your own outside, it is only polite to attempt to get to know it. Be insistent. Your food will usually not be so polite and try to leave. * Table scraps are delicacies with which the humans are unfortunately unwilling to readily part. It is beneath the dignity of a cat to beg outright for food as lower forms of life such as dogs will, but several techniques exist for ensuring that the humans don't forget you exist. These include, but are not limited to: jumping onto the lap of the "softest" human and purring loudly; lying down in the doorway between the dining room and the kitchen, the "direct stare", and twining around people's legs as they sit and eat while meowing plaintively. Sleeping: As mentioned above, in order to have enough energy for playing, a cat must get plenty of sleep. It is generally not difficult to find a comfortable place to curl up. Any place a human likes to sit is good, especially if it contrasts with your fur color. If it's in a sunbeam or near a heating duct or radiator, so much the better. Of course, good places also exist outdoors, but have the disadvantages of being seasonal and dependent on current and previous weather conditions such as rain. Open windows are a good compromise. Scratching Posts: It is advised that cats use any scratching post the humans may provide. They are very protective of what they think is their property and will object strongly if they catch you sharpening your claws on it. Being sneaky and doing it when they aren't around won't help, as they are very observant. If you are an outdoor kitty, trees are good. Sharpening your claws on a human is not recommended. Humans: Humans have three primary functions: to feed us, to play with and give attention to us, and to clean the litter box. It is important to maintain one's Dignity when around humans so that they will not forget who is the master of the house. Humans need to know basic rules. They can be taught if you start early and are consistent. |

Sadly, Tara passed away almost two months ago. She was 12. By Sarplaninac (or most large dogs for that matter) standards, that's really old. She was a real fighter. She just wouldn't give up. In the end we had to call a vet (and I still have trouble coming to terms with it), because despite the pain she was in, despite the fact that she hadn't really eaten anything for days and hadn't eaten properly for weeks, she still found the strength to draw in another breath. That was my baby. I bet she plucked a bone or two off Grim Reaper's leg. She really looked like she didn't want to go. This is one of her last pictures. Taken about a week and a half before she died (she still looked relatively good at that time, but a really...uncanny change came over her a few days after this photo was taken - she didn't last too long after that).  Boys are still pretty well and in good condition, but so was Tara last summer; Branko is 11 and Marko almost 10, so I try to enjoy their company as much as I can. And I'm taking pictures...:-)   Dogs should live longer... |

Aww, sorry to hear about your dog. They all look like very sweet dogs and very cute. I don't know why they were given such short life spans, they become such a part of the family, it's like losing a family member when they're gone. About the only thing that would probably outlive us or as long as us is a parrot. |

I took my cats to the groomer to get rid of their mats and to attempt to cut down on all the cat hair in the house during shedding season. (2 long hari cats can put out a LOT of hair) This is what they look like after a lion cut. (it was a definite challenge since neither of these old ladies have been to the beauty shop before. Twilight Smoke deposited a rotten fang in the hand of one of the assistants!) This is Mu. I had the groomer leave her tail alone and just give her fur boots   This is Twilight Smoke. I was really anxious to see her finished because in spite of the fact that she looks gray with her long hair, she is really a pastel tortie. The dark spots on her sides are chocolate brown, you could only see them when she was in bright sunlight. She has fur boots (because she refused to let the groomer touch her lower legs and feet with the trimmer) and a puff end on her tail.    |

Gosh Mu is an old lady. My oldest cat was 26 and she had to be put to sleep as she was part wild and slept outside a lot and I did not know she had been fly blown and got into her spine and infected. In the end she was so ill. It broke my heart to have her so ill and put to sleep. Even when the vet gave her the injection while I cuddled her, she would not sleep so he had to give her more injection. She was a stray cat too. Most of my cats were in the past. I my self am still not sure how old my ginger cat Kai is as he was also a stray. But I do know how old Fifi is because my mum got her back in 95 and she was born October 1994 30th. So she is just over 14 years old now. |

WOW that's a lot of sleeping. They got save energy for all that mouse hunting or in Fifi's case all that eating she does. To my horror earlier on I now find that my outer cat flap has broken, come off and it's not that long ago it was put on, so now I have two doors with holes in where the flaps used to be. I'm glad it's not cold weather or my kitchen would be freezing now. Oh damn it never rains but it pours. I've had so much bad luck lately it's not funny. |

Good news late last night Kai came home smelling a bit awful and something has happened to his tail but apart from that he was ok. I gave him food and he ate it really quickly as normally he eats slow. My neighbour thinks perhaps he was trapped some where. I picked him up and gave him a big cuddle and told him as really missed him. When I went to bed he jumped up onto his cat blanket on my bed and then Fifi and him both sat as near to me as they possible could and I nearly fell out of bed, lol. I think he knows I was worried about him as he's not left my side today. At present he's in the back room asleep on what used to be my dad's bed. |

My big, brave Bozzinova saved me from a squirrel to day Bozz & I were sitting on my deck this morning when a brazen squirrel ran down the limb of the blue spruce that grows in front of my deck. The squirrel got close enough to jump off the limb & onto the deck (I was afraid he would run into the house since I left the door open). Bozz shot across the deck toward the squirrel and scared it back up the tree. I don't know if it was just teasing Bozz, or if it meant to make a mad dash for the house, but it was really cute. Bozzinova's Big Adventure - Bozz made the great escape when I came home from work about 12:30 this morning. I went looking for him a couple times since this is the first time he's gotten out on his own and I wasn't sure he know his way back home. I finally gave up looking for him (met one of my new neighbors in the process )and went to bed. I woke up a little after 4 and figured I'd check to see if he came home. Sure enough, he was sitting on the sidewalk below his deck. He didn't come when I called, so I had to go out & pick the bugger up & carry him in. (wet feet & tail) He had quite a lot to say this afternoon (after an extensive series of naps) Unfortunately it didn't translate well, so I don't know if he had a good time outside or not. |

I've been quiet about this for the last week. Didn't want to jinx this untill I actually got him home. The woman who cleans house for my mom lives on a farm with her mom & sister and her brother. People drop off animals there all the time OJ got dropped off early last summer and spent the summer outside with the barn cats. When the weather turned cold they brought him inside along with 16 of the other not so feral cats. The family is very picky about adopting out their animals and only let them go if they are DEFINITELY going to good homes. Well, I brought OJ home about 3 hours ago. It only took him a couple hours to scout out the house and lay claim to the big climber in the living room. He's VERY friendly, loves to be brushed, and is quite talkative. He purrs so loud he sounds like he's going to shake something loose inside. Meet OJ! |

he is very cute lol he is pretty light lol my min pin ia 8 to 8.5 lbs. He is very cute looks like he would want to highjack your lap and will not move till you pet him. Lol, cats even the grumpy ones that don't like people always jump on my lap. Their owners jaws drop and are like wow he/she has never done that! I like petting and playing with them but my hunny is not a cat person. |

Glad you have another cat. A home without a cat is not a home I say. All cats should be brushed, even if they are not long haired like OJ.Fifi my elderly cat loves to be brushed on the head and neck and Kai loves to be brushed all over apart from his tummy. As a cat gets older it stops them from coughing up fur balls. His loud purring sounds to me that he is very content and happy to be with you and has you all to him self. :ani-light1: |

They were the awesomest, greatest, smartest and most beautiful dogs ever. There were three of them and they were basically my surrogate siblings for over a decade. They meant (and still mean) more to me that the majority of bipeds I'm on first name terms with. Marko, the last remaining of our Sarplaninacs, died peacefully - and thankfully on his own terms, without the vet's assistance - three days ago. It's the end of an era to me.  |

I have adopted out two of the baby bunnies now I am looking for a home for 'Thumper' his name will be changed I am sure. It makes me very sad to let him go but it's for the best. The other two bunnies are very happy. One I get to see when I visit my parents. Its my brother's first pet and he is very responsible with storm trooper. He is very much in love with starwars he is only 9. The other one to a roomie and his gf? It's out of love I make this decision makes me sad. It was hard and it will be hard to let him go. I saw them since birth, they are the first litter me and my husband ever had. A Marcel they all survived and they are all very healthy. But he needs a friend someone to spend time with. I can not do it as much as I had so I will find someone who will. Its hard on me he is a child to me and I want the best of the best for him.......even if it's not with me. |

That poster is so cute Abby. Well I post this here as I don't want add more to the MM thread. I used to own a Chilean Rose Tarantula once. I think it was a male. He was the size of my hand and only ate once a week. I kept him in a heated tank from the pet shop. I have three books on spiders so knew abit about how to keep them etc. The last shedding of his ex-skelton he develop some sort of fungus and died. I was so up set. I still to this day have three of his ex-skeltons. I had to fed him on life crickets and trying keep those f..kers alive was bugger. I had to keep them in a large container with egg box container inside and half a slice of orange. A dish of water that had to have cotton wool in it so they did not drown. Catching was a pet hate for me becuase they jump so high and quickly. I remember one night my cat running around my bedroom because one of the crickets had escaped. My tarantula on the other hand was easy. I had a temperture gauge thing and had to read it every day and I'd spray a fine mist to keep the humidity up. My twins sister said I was insane keeping it in my bedroom right by my bed but that's becasue they both hate spiders. Just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words... Our Bernese and our cat won't let us mourn too much, as they constantly demand our attention (and who are we to deny them) - but Marko's passing is particularly difficult for us since he was the last of the original pack. today was the worse ever.....3 of my bunnies are died I can not beleive it they are gone. I feel sick the door wasn't latched well they got out. Our friend's dog got them.....we weren't here so when we got back we found them. The heartache is to much I saw nightshade and thumper since they were born......sephora the mom is gone. We have Mr. Bunny he is still with us and two of his sons. one with my brother one with our friend they are all that is left.....I ran to them I hoped they be ok but we came to late they were gone. I just held thumper in my hands hoping for something and cried for hours. I am not crying i have no tears left they are gone. Our friend feels terrible but it wasn't his fault the hatch wasn't closed. I miss them so much the pain is intolerable. His dog started then ours joing in which makes me unable to look at them. I lost 3 of my kids today in a terrible way....... |

My dogs are not after little animals they have never harmed any before. But I fear they will start now after this I can't deal the with another death. |

I have never had a cat at times I am curious on having one. But they are a mystery idk how to be a cat owner. More of a dogs person but one day would like a furball. Cats like me even the grumpy ones. He is very comfortable isn't he? Lol, man me think he is at the beach sunbathing haha. I got a goldfish and a new half moon double tail betta. I think our goldfish is a Moore with a bronze underbelly. my betta is black with green scales we are going to get one more goldfish. We are hoping to either sell back or just donate our danios the starter fish. |

i think there might be a chance that my ziggy poo the red two year old dachshund might be pregnant. not sure yet but i think she is if that's true i'm excited. they will be mutts lol the dad is half rat terrior and dachshund. he is black and tan short hair i think they will be cute lol. ron is not to happy since they are mixed but he will fall for them hard. we might keep one the rest i hope will have good people that will love them. so i will let ya all know if we will be having pups ^^ |

I'm a new mama! My friend Michael rescued a baby kitten that had fallen into the opening of a crawl space under the house next to his office. He kept hearing cat sounds for a couple days but he thought the mother cat would come looking for a kitten. This morning Michael talked to the owner of the house who asked him to check on it. Michael found a tiny gray kitten and gave it to the guy at the house. The homeowner was going to make some calls to see if he could find a home for the kitten. In the meantime, I was meeting with Michael catch up on old times and discuss a business deal. He asked my if I wanted a kitten and I told him I'd take a look. BIG MISTAKE! I fell in love with the guy 'Gus' and took him to the vet to be checked out b4 I take him home to OH. As far as can be told, he's in good shape except for being very hungry and a bit dehydrated. He's too small for other tests (FELV & Distemper). Gus weights 15 ounces and is 1 month old. He's not fully weaned (he tries to suckle on my shirt) but he can drink liquids from a shallow bowl and eat canned cat food. (Yeah, hopefully I won't have to bottle feed him as cats generally don't get weaned until about 12 weeks) OJ wasn't thrilled when I brought Gus home. He went & hid in the closet for several hours, but is now out and about but still not sure about the noisy little creature in the bathroom. (have to keep them separated for a while until they get used to each other and Gus is so small he could easily get lost ).  |

Thanks Poohzee. Big brother OJ isn't sure about the kitten yet. (I changed his name from Gus to Bandit because of those cute little stripes on his face) OJ keeps his distance because he's afraid of him (OJ was bullied by other cats in the past. My friend Vickie thinks OJ's neurotic  ) But yesterday OJ went running into the bathroom, stopped about a foot away from Bandit, and dropped one of his toy balls on the floor b4 making a mad dash out the bathroom door. It was sweet of him to share a toy with his new baby brother.  With a little time I think they will be friends. After all, how can you be afraid of something that wobbles and bounces when it runs up to you? :emot143: |

Now that they are spending more time together, OJ has a huge impact on Bandit. Bandit tries to emulate OJ's actions and behavior. That part is great since OJ has such wonderful house-cat manners. Oh the other hand, OJ is such a neat-nic about some things. He will come get me as soon as he is finished doing #2 in his litter box. He wants me to clean his box right away because "it's smelly". I also found out that it's not acceptable for them to drink out of the same water bowl. Each cat needs his own. The prospect of eing up with tow anal neat-nic cats on my hands is SCARY!   |

Thanks. OJ started wrestling with him a couple nights ago. Mostly so OJ could teach him how to clean himself. OJ laid on him to hold him down and then proceeded to give him a bath. Apparently OJ didn't think my cleaning him up was sufficient. (Bandit did leave a skid mark on OJ's favorite pillow) Anyway, I caught them curled up sleeping together yesterday afternoon so I'm pretty sure all is well between them. |

Bandit just got back from the vet. He's got his first round of vaccinations and got his blood tests done. (he was too little to get blood from last month) He is Distemper and Feline Leukemia negative and flea free. He has gone from 16oz to 2lbs 14oz. |

Just got back from Bandit's vet apt to get his 2nd round of shots. He's 12 weeks old and weights 4 lbs 14 oz. (above average weight for a cat 16 weeks old) The vet said he was VERY muscular. He's doing good.    |

CHRISTMAS PICTURES The mouse DFG made for the boys was a big hit. Bandit got it first and played with it until OJ found a chance to steal it away and hauled it under the bed for some 'personal time' with the catnip toy!   Grandma & Grandpa have a really cool kitty entertainment center in their back yard. They have 2 bitd feaders (lots of birds) squirrels, bunnies, and the occasional neighborhood cat that strolls through their yard.  The accommodations are really comfy too!  But this is what happens when you don't make your bed in a timely fashion.  |

for all my cat friends hope this will make you laugh. i'm not a cat person i have two dogs but cats love me. so if my friends have cats they always sit on my lap and will not stop "attacking" me till a play or pet them. even the super grumpy ones that don't like new people will sit in my lap! have not gotten bite when they sit in my lap. they are just so happy and purr so loud they can make the ground shake haha. shocks their owners when they see their cats been so friendly with me. so i thought this would make you guys laugh sorry got of topic haha. my son must have been a cat he also does it if it fits he sits. |

I've been catching the boys handing out together a bit more often but didn't have a camera handy before. Looking at the two of them together, you'd never know that Bandit put his paw over OJ's shoulders and tried to shove his head into the water dish yesterday or the OJ took off runnin so fast into the living room an up tonto the back of the sofa, that Bandit T-boned the sofa with his head at full speed! Never a dull moment with these two around.   |

SAd news, my sister took her dog to the vet yesterday he's been acting a bit listless and not really eating like he should. Looks like he may have cancer. We decided to change his diet and start giving him Herbal supplements. He's acting like he feels better today. |

He is kind of up there in age, all of our dogs are right around 12 years old. Deacon was always the sort of Lazy chubby one out of the group. My to are active and still play like puppies especially my little girl, who happens to be the most annoying out of the group. She loves the sound of her own voice and barks all the time at nothing. |

We've been doing some research. Dogs rarely die from cancer itself but from Health complications like liver failure. He's now on a No grains diet, Omega fish oil and Ganoderma spore. Hopefully it will help. |

He had a serious under bite was slew footed and never managed to get the hang of wagging his tail. Everybody else' tail goes side to side. Deacon's always went in a circle.Our Pack is now smaller by one. We just had the vet come out and Deacon Frost my 4 legged nephew is now keeping my daughter company. I bought the boyz a scratching post/tower for the bedroom to keep them from clawing up my mattress corners. After I assembled it, I rubbed a little nip in so they would like it. Bandit is such a rambunctious cat, I was surprised at how fast he mellowed out!  |

OJ's favorite green crocheted mouse (the one DFG made for OJ & Bandit for Christmas last year) has been missing for several weeks. I thought maybe OJ had hidden it (he does that some times) but I hadn't seen it for some time and was wondering what he'd done with it. Well, this morning I found it. I pulled the cat carrier out of the closet to take Bandit to the groomer to get his nails cut since I can't see well enough to cut them myself. And lo and behold, I found the missing green mouse. The last time I had the carrier out, OJ had been laying in it. A huge surprise since OJ HATES to travel. Anyway this morning I found the missing mouse in the cat carrier. OJ must have though we were going to grandma's house and wanted to take his favorie toy with him! LOL I didn't realize the mouse was even in the carrier, so it's been shut in the closet all this time. OJ is very glad to be reunited with his favorite toy. Thanks again DFG for mousey! |
